Qveen Herby: The Alchemist Ranking our favorite 7 songs from the album

Qveen Herby

Background about Qveen Herby

Qveen Herby started her singing career as a member of the band Karmin, who had hits such as “Hello”, “Brokenhearted”, and “ACAPELLA.”

Acapella is one of my favorite songs EVER and got a lot of play time on my phone when I was in middle school! Back in the day when cars would automatically start with the first song in your library based on alphabetical order, Acapella was always it’s go to… until my dad added “Aaron Burr, Sir” to the family account *Crys in broadway musical.

But seriously, I have loved Qveen Herby’s music since before I even knew who she was. My partner and I actually attended her concert in Atlanta this year. The Qveen Herby tour was one of the best atmospheric concerts I’ve attended, and I’ve seen over 80 artists preform… Let’s just say I’m a big supporter of I Heart Radio’s Jingle Ball concerts LOL!

For those of you who don’t know who Qveen Herby is, I HIGHLY recommend starting with her album Halloqveen.

Now to the album

This week, Qveen Herby released a new album titled “The Alchemist” which was a shock as I thought I already had a favorite lyrical work with that title from this year… Sorry Taylor!

While Qveen Herby’s music is usually super upbeat and deserves to be front and center on every “Feeling Myself” playlist on Spotify, The Alchemist is a bit different. With stories of betrayals and sadness, Qveen Herby lets us into her raw emotions in this seven part work of art.

Qveen Herby: The Alchemist

The Alchemist: Ranked

Favorite: “Bob Dylan”

Favorite Lyric: “Oh, my god, I wanted you to be so much”

I ranked this song first since we don’t often get a glimpse into the rawer side of Qveen Herby and this one has a lot of heart in it. As somebody who has had a few friend breakups, the song does a lot for me.

Runner Up: “Lavish”

Favorite Lyric: “M-I-A to the F’s I gave”

One of my favorite things to say is “I’m sorry, but I am freshly out of F’s to give” which is kind of adjacent to this. Lyrics like these are the reason I love Qveen Herby so much. They’re an absolute blast to yell at the top of my lungs, with the windows down, at 7:30 at night, while driving on I-75.

3rd: “Magic”

Favorite Lyric: “Do this every day and then retire and die”

Again, this is one of the first times we see the raw Qveen Herby come through. I often feel like life is one big hustle, and in the end, IDK if I will regret not taking a break when I could. This lyric basically sums that all up.

4th: “Mirror Mirror”

Favorite Lyric: “Poison apples all around, Take a bite and take it down”

As a fan of the “Snow White and The Huntsman” franchise, for Charlize Theron, NOT Kristen Stewart, I love every reference to the movie. “Mirror Mirror” is clearly a reference to Snow White, but she goes a step further with this amazing lyric!

5th: “We Got This”

Favorite Lyric: “I can be Venus, Serena”

I get serious Tia Tamara vibes from this lyric, which was my grandmother’s favorite Doja Cat song, my partner heard her singing it on the couch one time and… anyway, I guess that’s why I like the song.

6th: “My SZN”

Favorite Lyric: “I float Wingardium Leviosa”

If it wasn’t clear already, I am a huge fan of Harry Potter. This is just such a clever line, and made me chuckle the first time I heard it!

Honorable Mention: “Herby House”

Favorite Lyric: “Can’t nobody stop the vibes”

I think the reason this one isn’t higher on the list is partially out of spite. I would have loved to hear an extended version of it, and I might be a wee bit sour about that.

Overall, “The Alchemist” is a wonderful addition to the Qveen Herby collection! While Halloqveen is still my favorite album of hers, I am ALWAYS down for new music… Speaking which, I need her to drop “Le Monde” LOL!
